you were the little bright lights' silhouettes
against the dorm room wall,
staring down at us while we were
making mistakes -
scrutinizing, when all
you should've done
was keep your eyes closed,
letting your hands lead the way.

you were bringing me back.
in the lecture hall
the couples were flirting, hitting each other
with books and throwing post-its across the way.
and in discussion,
the awkwards whispered to each other,
holding hands behind the
teacher's back and eye-fucking the
shit out of each other
.
giggling at the excitement of
stray legs grazing against jeans.
and the cliches were crowding,
suffocating and birthing
new questions
answered between stares.
and you were bringing me back
to the beginning,
switching the transparencies
quickly across the screen
so i was left baffled and
amused, holding
onto a hand that felt
soft and white
like snow.

in the eye of the dawn and the belly of night
sit in the ebb, fold to the tide
against the blue waves, we rose to the light

bodies in pure, water clings tight
formed to the board, quick on the ride
in the eye of the dawn and the belly of night

clung to our lips, fell down her height
salt in our eyes, the sun is our guide
against the blue waves, we rose to the light

flew on her crest, fell down her height
legs that would shake, dreams that were tried
in the eye of the dawn and the belly of night

by mother's song, reflections were bright
some giants slipped, drowned and then died
against the blue waves, we rose to the light

watched her at dusk, vast in her might
sand in our pores, land we denied
in the eye of the dawn and the belly of night
against the blue waves, we rose to the light

today was a good day.
the morning fog obediently melted away and the breeze lingered throughout the sunshine.
the birds were strong in song and the stars slept as long as they should've.
inside, the dust collected, solemnly and steadily,
and the hallway echoed laughter and the yard
grew green with summer.
and your voice was clear and sure
and the bed was warm and welcome
and the radio had no static
and the commas refused existence
and the ice in our waters melted
and the television turned itself off
and the doors were left ajar
and the windows were wide open...
and the world kept on turning -
knocking itself off balance and stubbornly spinning
while i remained lost inside you
